FAQ

Lolipower was formed by Misha-SU and Radicand in mid 2006 aimed at bringing Japanese culture to parts of the world where it may be otherwise unaccessible. When we started this site, there were (still true!) a lack of a decent anime download sites where download speeds were acceptable, site browsing experience being pleasant, a TRUELY free site that is by fans for fans and not to make a buck off it, and last but not least, a site that lasts more than a few months before turning crap.
Film has always been a window to other cultures and we believe anime can certainly serve that purpose. From understanding the suffering and regret people felt in post-WW2 as expressed in Grave of the Fireflies to the critique of declining child birth rate and late marriages in current Japanese society shown in Final Approach, anime is a third eye for us to examine Japanese society.

We designed this system to be FAIR to everyone and IMO, it is pretty hard to get banned unless you try. Aside the fairness aspect of these rules, we also designed this system to ensure our survival. I am sure you've seen plenty of DDL sites go under because of their failed system administration and/or download system. We have gone through great depths to try to prevent this from happening and it seems to be working so far! Most of things we do not want you to do, we have prevented you from doing so on our custom solution. Our system and rules are to ensure that the download speed of EVERYONE is faster than people yelling 1s and 0s through the phone. Without further adieu:

• One download per person at any given moment.* Notice I said person, not IP. Just because you have xx machines doesn't mean you should download xx files off us at once. We will ban entire ISP/netblocks without question or warning and these bans are only lifted when we feel like it (pretty rare). (*) Limit may be increased to 2 or 3 depending on server load or time of day. Just be aware that 1 is normal.
• Don't hammer us. If a server is full, it doesn't mean you should be clicking the download link or have your download manager retry every half second. If you hammer download.php more than 30 times in 6 minutes, you will be banned automatically. These bans are lifted every 12 hours.
• There are no perks associated with donations so don't ask. That is what a donation is. Unlike other pay sites who sugar coats it with the term "donation", donations in lolipower are actually donations *GASP*. There are no hidden or premium or wtf you want to call it sections here. WYSIWYG. That being said, donations are highly welcomed here =D. Currently, donations cover about a third of our server bills.

Here are some Q/As about our system so you don't go apeshit from the 3 rules from above.

Q: I like your DL management system, can I have it?
A: We are not giving the source out so don't ask for it. However, if you REALLY want it, we'll sell it to you for a low price of 250,000 USD. This is a completely custom solution so don't bother searching for it on your favorite search engine.

Q: Why don't you allow hotlinking?
A: Because we don't want you to.

Q: Why can't I queue files?
A: Because we don't want you to. If everybody queued xxx files, some people can never download.

Q: Why can't I multithread?
A: Because we don't want you to. It adds extra load to our servers and we don't like that.

Q: Are there download limits?
A: No. You can download as much as you want as long as you follow our rules.

Q: Can I resume DLs?
A: YES. Just because our links changes doesn't mean that you cannot resume. You simply just have to change the URL of your old DL with the new one and you'll be on your way. Please see here for more info.

Q: I get hotlinking errors but I am not hotlinking! HALP!
A: The reason for that is because your ISP (term is used loosely here...) is placing you behind a transparent proxy. Basically, what that means is that they do not have enough real world IPs for their users and are currently putting you transparent proxies. On top of this, your ISP load balances their gateways (what you go through to hit the internet), when you visit the list page, you are using IP #1 but when you try to connect to our nodes, you're connecting via IP #2 and hence the hotlinking error. If you are lucky, you might hit the nodes with IP #1 again and you would be able to download. You can keep trying this but don't get yourself and others banned. There isn't really a feasible solution for us to code up so you guys are kinda out in the dark =/. In the normal world, transparent proxies aren't really a BAD thing.. but for lolipower, it is.

Q: Why can't xxx country download from your site?
A: Because we don't want you (or them) to. We only ban countries where a lot of people from them misbehave (see SG/MY).

Q: Your download speed sucks.
A: We're poor people and we go for stuff we can afford. We have no interest in turning lolipower into:

• Nag site. We don't think it makes a site appealing. Splatting the site with "DONATE" srsly ruins a browsing experience and we know you people don't like it anyway.
• Pay site. We are here to spread culture, not making $$ off it.
• Ad site. If I want to see ads/popups/popunders, I'll visit some random porn site.
• Threat site. We do not get big fancy servers that we can only afford for two months then threaten our userbase for "donations" to keep afloat.

Q: How do I know if I am banned?
A: There are 3 ways to get banned here:

1. Hammering. You can check by clicking on the Bans link on top or try downloading from that server. If the server does not respond (browser says server is down) you're banned. Unless we make an announcement that a server is down, that server is very much alive.
2. Multi-leeching. When this happens, you won't be able to see the list. You may not have done anything to warrant this ban but somone on your netblock/ISP did. When you click on DDL or do a search, you will get a forbidden error. My suggestion to you is to not hold your breath for the unban.
3. Piss us off.

Q: Why don't you host xxx series?
A: Probably because that series is licensed. Please support your local anime companies and buy the legit media/merchandise. Some say that your local anime license company is not up to par and boycotts their products. However, this will only hurt the original Japanese studio(s) more. Studios make money from the licenses your local anime company holds so if your local company doesn't license the series, the Japanese studio doesn't make any money. Next time you complain about "this season having shitty shows", maybe you're part of the cause for this "shittiness".

Q: Why don't you host xxx series by group xyz?
A: Probably because xyz sucks.

Q: I want you to host my media!
A: ORLY. Depends on the content and the quality of the content.

Q: Do you guys have a IRC channel to troll?
A: Yes we do. #t('.'t) @ Rizon.

Q: Why is it called lolipower? Now my friends and family won't associate with me after they found out that I visited this site. Are you guys a bunch of pedos?
A: Contary to popular belief, we are NOT a bunch of pedos. Lolipower just sounded kewl. If this was some sick site, why would we make it so public?

Q: You guys are a bunch of assholes.
A: Go somewhere else to download. Others will appreciate another free download slot.

Q: I notice you guys put new releases up very very fast. Can you send your new releases to me?
A: Fuck off and die.

Q: I have a server and want to join the lolipower server pool.
A: We only accept LEGIT boxens. No rooted shit. We will also need root on your box to setup stuff (don't worry, we won't do anything on it that you don't want us to). Bandwidth depends on what you want to host. To give you an idea, we do about 400-700GiB out per day per server.

Q: You guys seem pretty SMRT! Can you manage my server/box?
A: ...
